Dr. Thomas Bellut
Thomas Bellut studied Political Science, History and Journalism in Münster between 1975 and 1982. After completing his studies, he worked as a journalist, holding positions such as editor of the Westfälische Nachrichten and the Länderspiegel. In 1986, he joined ZDF´s regional studio in Berlin as a correspondent. In 1990, he was appointed Managing Editor for the programmes “Familienmagazin” (“Family Magazine”) and “Reiselust” (“Urge to Travel”).During the 1994 election campaign, he presented “Nachtduelle” (“Nighttime Duels”), together with Peter Frey. From 1994 to 1997, Thomas Bellut served as Managing Editor of “blickpunkt” (“focal point”) in the Central Editorial Department for Domestic Affairs, with responsibility for special programmes on domestic policy, election broadcasts, reporting on party conferences, as well as for the programme “Was nun, …?” (“What now, …?”), which he subsequently also co-hosted. Between 1997 and 2002, he managed ZDF´s Central Editorial Department for Domestic Affairs, also presenting election and “ZDFspezial” programmes, including its political barometer. Following this, Thomas Bellut worked as Programme Director at ZDF. He has been Director General of ZDF since 15 March 2012.
