Dr. Angelica Schwall-Düren

Minister for Federal Affairs, Europe and the Media NRW


Dr. Angelica Schwall-Düren has been Minister for Federal Affairs, Europe and the Media in the State of North Rhine-Westphalia since 2010. Born in Offenburg, Dr. Schwall-Düren studied History, Political Science and French at the University of Freiburg. In 1977, she obtained her doctorate in Economic and Social History. From 1977 to 1994, she was a teacher at grammar schools in Ahaus and Gronau. Alongside her work, she completed further training as a family therapist and supervisor. From 1994 to 2010, Dr. Angelica Schwall-Düren was a member of the German Federal Parliament (Bundestag) and from 1998, Chief Whip for the Social Democratic Party (SPD). She held the office of Vice Chairman of the SPD Parliamentary Group for European Union Affairs from 2002 to 2010.
